The Princess of Wales's Traditional Yuletide Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as award-winning actors.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The focus of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the former royal to widen access to music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the trust, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for community pantries.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
